What Does the Blepharoplasty Procedure Entail?

Upper eyelid surgery involves the removal of excess skin and then a tightening of the remainder. Remaining skin is lifted and reattached to give the area a more refreshed and youthful look. Residual scarring from this procedure are generally hidden in the crease of the upper lid.
A typical upper eyelid surgery is completed within 30 minutes. If ptosis repair or lower lids need treatment, the procedure can last over an hour. The specific length of the operation is dependent on the details of your treatment plan, but eyelid surgery is performed on an outpatient basis and patients are able to return home the same day.
What Is Eyelid Surgery Recovery Like?
Once eyelid surgery is complete, your eyelids will be lubricated with a special antibiotic ointment. There will be some degree of bruising and swelling for a week or two after the procedure, and your eyes may feel sore or tight—however, any discomfort can be managed with applied ice packs. Please note that you may experience some temporary blurriness, excess tearing, and light sensitivity during recovery, but this will resolve over time.
You will likely be able to resume normal daily activities after a few days, and most patients can return to work a couple of days after the procedure, depending on your occupation. Additionally, you will be advised to avoid strenuous exercise/activities for a week and avoid eye rubbing. Household activities such as reading, watching TV, or using the computer can usually be resumed almost immediately.
